Jack Rose
Jack is civil engineer and strategic planning consultant. His professional experience has included some fantastic projects including the Queensferry Crossing (Scotland), Manchester Metrolink, Riyadh Metro, Hogarth Flyover (London) and Thames Tideway (London). Jack is currently based in Riyadh where he is a strategic planning consultant.
Jack has a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Southampton and a master’s in business administration (MBA) from Trinity College Dublin. He is a chartered member of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
Having been born in the Copperbelt of Zambia, Jack’s childhood is firmly African. Cape to Cairo is therefore personal and a means to express a lived truth: there is endless potential when we come together and connect. Jack loves to travel and it is a personal goal to experience the entire Cape to Cairo route – and more!

Tana Canda
Tana is a chartered Civil Engineer and has worked predominantly on the design and management of transportation projects. His experience of large infrastructure projects includes the Crossrail megaproject in London (at its peak the largest construction project in Europe), Meridian Water, Barking Riverside, and Croydon Area Remodelling Scheme. Tana is currently based in Edinburgh working on different railway feasibility projects throughout Scotland.
He was born in Luanda, Angola, a country that is rich in natural beauty and resources, but which is hindered by short-sighted policies. This has cemented Tana’s interest in infrastructure solutions as key enablers of sustainable growth. This passion has led him to engage in workshops in Luanda inspiring local engineers and students on the potential for change.
Cape to Cairo, which started as a conversation amongst friends, is another step on the journey of realisation of the immense power within Africa!

Vivek Chandra
A senior frontend engineer and MSc graduate in data science, Vivek has over a decade’s experience in start-ups and multinational corporations. He specialises in software development and research, complemented by his skillset in numerous program and data technologies.
Vivek hails from Karnataka in India, a country with its own rich railway heritage and one of the largest networks in the world. He brings to Cape to Cairo a belief that focused groups of smart individuals can have a bigger impact in producing quality solutions.
